Lost and Found

Plum, Kevin, and Jeremy wandered down a dark third-floor hallway.

“We have definitely been down this hall before.”

“No . . . this one is different,” said Jeremy. “Isn’t it?”

“Plum’s right,” said Kevin. “I recognize this water fountain.”

Plum was feeling very anxious again. Where could the theater be? How big was Romeburg Elementary School? Should they have left a trail of bread crumbs or something? Where does one even get that many bread crumbs?

“I thought you had a good sense of direction, Kevin,” said Jeremy.

“Me? Why would you think that?”

“You scoot all over the zoo in your Habitrail.”

“But with the Habitrail, you only have two choices: forward or forward the other way,” said Kevin.

“Does anyone remember how to get back to the gym?” asked Plum.

Silence.

“Great,” said Plum.

“I’m pretty sure it was down,” said Jeremy. “There’s a staircase at the end of the hall. Let’s go down and look for either the theater or the gym.”

“I guess that’s a good plan,” said Plum.

“What’s the plan?” Kevin stuck his head out from yet another classroom.

“Stop going into classrooms!” said Plum.

“This one has a lot of paper snowflakes hanging from the ceiling,” said Kevin.

“Haven’t we had enough snow?” asked Plum. “Just follow the plan.”

“Right,” said Kevin. “Er, what is the plan?”

“DOWN!” said Plum and Jeremy.

“Okay! Okay!” said Kevin.

They headed to the staircase. At the top of the stairs, there was a small closet with an open door.

Plum and Jeremy started down the stairs. Kevin poked his head into the closet.
